Titel: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 04.10.2005, 01:43:39 [shadow=red,left,300]We need YOU for the Intercity League!,[/shadow]
The League is starting up again and we are always looking for players. I dont have a start date or a list of games, but we are signed up. LA (Lardarse) and I will be captaining the team after the fine job by Elttil. The goal for this season for the team is to crack into the top 5.[/u] We ended up 8th last season. We were 51-45 against the teams that finished 6 thru 10 :), but 46-50 against teams finishing 10 thru 14 :-/ and 61-107 against teams finishing 1 thru 5. :( So if we can be more consistent against the bottom teams, keep doing well against the mid-level teams, and work on catching the top teams a bit, we should be able to move up the rankings. ;D With our veteran core and our new players, we should be able to make some noise in this league. I know we have had a lot of people interested, but if everyone can sign up officially here (or just tell LA or myself) and let us know if you can play one or two games per week that will help us figure out the workload so to speak. Odds are we will have 8 to 12 people playing so I cant see anyone averaging 2 games per week on a consistent basis. No need to post what games you like to play, I already know from the stats I keep and would rather like to make the other teams captain work for 10 minutes to find out the information instead of reading it here. Yes, Im a competitive guy. We should have a good solid team and LA and I are looking forward to the new season. Lets go out, have fun, play the best we can and show good sportsmanship to our opponents. If we do that, everything else will take care of itself and we will have a great season. ;D See you all online! Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 04.10.2005, 01:58:31 Wahoo! I'm excited to get the league going again. I'm willing to play 2 games/week when needed!
Big thanks to PaulW and Lardarse for taking on the management of the team. :) /Elttil applies a coat of stick'em to the thread Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: porcupine am 04.10.2005, 04:13:16 Wahooo! Finally we're back to action. I'm willing to play two games a week if it's not every week.
-pine ready for some fun, but maybe not to break into any ranks (but you'd know better, you've read the stats :P ) Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Don_Quijote am 04.10.2005, 05:02:06 Zitat So if we can be more consistent against the bottom teams, keep doing well against the mid-level teams, and work on catching the top teams a bit, we should be able to move up the rankings. [translation] If we play better than last time [/translation] ::) I am also in for two games a week if needed. DQ Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Bromios am 04.10.2005, 05:10:55 Throw me on the list, but just for 1 a week. I don't trust myself enough to be responsible for two a week. ::)
Bromios Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 04.10.2005, 06:04:13 Zitat [translation] If we play better than last time [/translation] ::) Hey, Hey! Stop messing with my positive spin! :-[ ;) We had new guys (like me) who took some lumps early, it was our first time in League 2, no Yinsh players, etc. We filled in a few holes and have some more time under our belts. We are ready to rock! Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 04.10.2005, 09:08:20 This computer is getting ridculous...
I had a nice post mined up for here, and then it crashed :-( I'll post sth inspirational tomorrow... LA Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Jocelyn25 am 04.10.2005, 12:47:10 Morning,
*willing to play* whatever number of games needed each week as long as they are AFTER 9am. ;D Lets show them we rock!!! Jocy Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Esterio am 05.10.2005, 15:36:00 I could play a game from time to time, but cannot guarantee any regular activity. At most one game a week, anyway.
Esterio Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: reikja am 05.10.2005, 16:41:26 oh, if you are reaching for the stars, you should not count on me in the team for i was not very victorious last season.. ;D
if you can cope with less than a top 5 ranking, put me on the list for at least one game per week (Café International or Lost Cities and Backgammon, nothing else...). bet we can count on better playes this season - so go, Munchkins, goo!! :--: reikja Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 05.10.2005, 18:07:47 Zitat if you can cope with less than a top 5 ranking... Sure I can. I don't take the games THAT seriously. However, I'm a very goal oriented person. I think it is good to have a target for the team to strive for. If we don't make it, well, that's life. It's not like we have money or something running on this. If we do, well we can all feel good that we worked together to meet a common goal. Glad to have you on board reikja! ;D Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Don_Quijote am 05.10.2005, 19:41:38 Zitat I don't take the games THAT seriously. This is not serious here? Don_Quijote calls back the seven dwarfs :o Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 05.10.2005, 20:05:13 OK... The German speakers here can do us a big favour by finding out the following:
The games will be available next season. The teams that were promoted into division 2 from division 3. The teams that were relegated from division 1 info division 2. Translations of all of the important words that we are likely to need to know about. The Emerald.City cookie recipe :-) Feel free to e-mail me (shrapnel.city@gmail.com) or Paul (pbwedz@verizon.net) if you want to tell us anything that you don't want to post on the forums... LA Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 05.10.2005, 22:34:06 Zitat The teams that were promoted into division 2 from division 3. The teams that were relegated from division 1 info division 2. I think the key to these is to find the link to the Spring\Summer League site for divisions 1 and 3. In theory, we won't know the teams until the signup period is over. Someone who would have switched leagues may not play, in that case who knows what happens then. However, assuming everyone plays, we can look at last season's standing and take it from there. Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 05.10.2005, 23:33:57 All that German stuff is Greek to me, but I can provide a little info:
There'll be a discussion (in German naturally) on the STL-Treffen channel on Oct 10 at 20:00 (German time). It appears the final game list will be decided upon then and I assume there'll be details posted soon after. There's a summary of the previous leagues here (http://www.kevinffm.de/staedteliga/index.html). NOH is NightOwlsHome and they have a main team which won league 1 decisively, and an amateur team that placed third in league 3. We obviously won't know who's in our league until everybody signs up or drops out. Besserwisserministerium -- know-it-all ministry :) -- finished last in league 1 with zero points so I imagine they quit during the season. This may mean that more than 3 teams move up, or one of the new teams may be placed with the wolves in league 1 :o so we're really guessing who are opponents will be at this point. Zitat Feel free to e-mail me (shrapnel.city@gmail.com)... I sent you an e-mail yesterday and it got bounced. Troubles with gmail, or should I send again? Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 05.10.2005, 23:38:55 Stole my thunder E. I just found that site and was going to post. Beat me to it.
Thanks for the help, PW Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 05.10.2005, 23:43:30 Actually, on that site can you explain how the Pkt. and Diff. columns work? ???
Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 06.10.2005, 02:03:09 Zitat Actually, on that site can you explain how the Pkt. and Diff. columns work? ??? That page is not accurate on the points and game differential. The overall positions of the teams (at least in our league) is correct. Pkt is the team score: 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. We were 9-5-12 so we really scored 23 points, not 22. Diff. is the game differential: games won - games lost (each game is worth 2 points). We won 66 games (132 game points), tied 2 games (0 points), and lost 88 (176 points) so our differential is really -44. Zitat Stole my thunder E. You can have your thunder back. What I really wanted were lightning bolts. ;D Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 06.10.2005, 02:19:02 Zitat I sent you an e-mail yesterday and it got bounced. Troubles with gmail, or should I send again? It will bounce anything that has a program file attached. Try sending again, then check for viruses. LA Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 06.10.2005, 03:56:03 Zitat It will bounce anything that has a program file attached. Try sending again, then check for viruses. LA Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 06.10.2005, 06:27:29 Do you still have my other e-mail address? Try sending it there.
Strange... zips should be fine with Gmail... Edit: Nevermind... it bounced for Paul as well, but he sent it to me through Yahoo. Will digest soon :-) Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: reikja am 06.10.2005, 11:49:06 Zitat Glad to have you on board reikja! ;D let's beat them to the grounds, folks!! :-* reikja Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Jocelyn25 am 06.10.2005, 13:11:24 As most of you have seen there is an information thread on the city league in the forum of C12-Hollinden. Up to now the information in there concerns the channel-meeting and probly you all know about that, but just in case..
Here are the main facts: Channel-Meeting of the Team-Captains (and those who might be captains once their city decides to participate) Monday, 10.10.2005, 20 Uhr (Central Europe time) Channel: /channel STL-Treffen agenda items: 1) short information on the new organisation of the CL 2) Presentation of the new league Homepage 3) Discussion/ you can voice Game Wishes, Suggestions for Deadline Rules etc. Thats about it for now. Jocy Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 06.10.2005, 17:33:11 Zitat That page is not accurate on the points and game differential. The overall positions of the teams (at least in our league) is correct. Well that explains it. :P Thanks! Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 12.10.2005, 20:30:17 While I don't see a post yet on the games to be picked for the league there is a running vote for a game to be added and removed from the league.
Added:http://www.brettspielwelt.de/cgi-bin/yabb41/YaBB.pl?board=Hollinden;action=display;num=1128607062 Removed:http://www.brettspielwelt.de/cgi-bin/yabb41/YaBB.pl?board=Hollinden;action=display;num=1128606695 I voted for EG to be added. It was not on the list, but that didn't stop a lot of people voting for it. I did not vote for the one removed, but Yinsh had a very strong lead and looks like a winner. Also here is the league board if any German reader want to help out and see what is going on: http://staedteliga.foren-city.de/ Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 15.10.2005, 00:04:35 We have games....
Backgammon (bo5) Cafe International (bo1) Cant Stop (bo5) CCE (bo1) Dvonn (bo1 - option profi) Einfach Genial (bo3) Ligretto (bo1) Lost Cities (bo7) San Juan (bo1 - option cardsetup) (Thanks LA for looking into that :)) St. Petersburg (bo1) Streetsoccer (bo1) Transamerica (bo1) Looks like we swapped Attika and Yinsh for Dvonn and EG. Of course you can agree to play more or less games with the other player. I would always make sure everyone agrees on the format before playing. If someone could traslate the rest, it would be a big help. I think the league starts on the 21st, but I'm not sure. At the very least what teams will be in what league will be out. http://www.brettspielwelt.de/cgi-bin/yabb41/YaBB.pl?board=Hollinden;action=display;num=1129292147 Confirmed players (unless LA knows something I don't): Bromios coolala Don_Quijote Elttil Esterio Jocelyn25 Lardarse PaulW porcupine reikja szwanger Figure most of us will get one game per week on average. Sometimes more\sometimes less depending who\what we are playing. I haven't seen the full translation of the league rules, but it sounds like the league is focusing more on getting games done on time. So it will be nice having a bigger pool of people so no one gets dumped on. It's getting close to time to suit up and get our 'game faces' on. >:( Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 15.10.2005, 01:22:18 Add Flöhli to that list. LA and I chatted with her yesterday and she wants to continue in the league.
It's too bad we lost Yinsh since we finally have some people who are decent players, but Dvonn is along the same vein so hopefully we can get a couple people up to speed on it. Esterio's got a nice winning percentage...oh, wait, DQ's a master! :) We had two strong Attika players in Esterio and coolala, but EG is a nice addition which we have much better coverage for. /Elttil begins looking for shirt that goes with his game face. 8) Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 21.10.2005, 06:37:16 We have cities...
League 2: LasVegas Dragontown Babylon Reality-Town Andoria EmeraldCity ;D MagicTown Meridian 7Heaven Reflection VOICES ChinaTown Looks like we have 4 leagues now: 1, 2, 3a, 3b Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 21.10.2005, 23:19:16 Quite a change -- 6 teams we've played with before, but 5 new ones. I assume that with the reduction to 12 teams that the season will only be 22 weeks which means each match will be more valuable.
/Elttil orders a second game face in case he loses the first one ;) Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 22.10.2005, 07:25:30 From what I understand, there were a lot of new teams, so they are splitting Liga3 this season, and next season they will have 4 groups.
It's 22 matches, and I'm assuming 2 a week starting 31st October for 6 weeks, then continuing after Christmas. We will ahve to get our home team picks in by the Tuesday before the listed starting date for a match, and our away picks by Thursday. Then we can start playing. :-) The schedue will be posted tomorrow (or today, depending on wether or not you're typing at 2am) but I won't be looking at it until the evening, because I will be deciding on who will be playing what games. Elttil, I will need a list of e-mail addresses for ou team members. It might also be a good idea to e-mail Yordan to add at least 1 of me and Paul to the moderators list, because we will be needing to let everyone else in the city know about how well we are doing. I think that's everything... LA Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Don_Quijote am 22.10.2005, 16:31:00 Thanks for the info.
I think we shouldn't have too many mods in this forum (we are already at 3). Is there a way for you communicating and updating the results with the 'edit' function LA? Don_Quijote Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Lardarse am 22.10.2005, 21:19:42 Well, I can edit my posts, but not Paul's posts, that's why I'm suggesting making 1 of us a mod, then the other person creates the thread with all of the schedules and results.
And there are several towns with 5 or more mods on their forums... Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Elttil am 23.10.2005, 13:06:04 Well, when I became mayor and asked to have myself become a moderator, it took 4 months. ;)
Another option to consider is to not maintain the results in a thread here. I did it last season, but that was mainly because the web page was down for most of the season. I think it would be fine to just post a link to the league web page and everyone can keep up with our results there. We can certainly use this thread or a new one for posting match results "EC wins again!", "Another victory for EC!", that sort of thing. It would be simpler than editing a monster table each week. :-X If you two (Lardarse and PaulW) feel strongly that you want to maintain our record here, I can request the mod ability, but I think it would be fine to save you the trouble and not do it. Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 23.10.2005, 16:52:21 For now, we can just keep the link to the league site. If the site can't stay up, like last year, then LA and I can figure out some system.
LA and I are scouting our first two victims. We will post a lineup in the next day or so. Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: Nicias am 23.10.2005, 21:36:11 If you are concerned with having too many mods, I see no need for me to be a mod anymore. Elttil and reikja are doing such a great job of running the formum, that I don't need to be a mod anymore.
Titel: Re: Intercity League, Fall 2005 Beitrag von: PaulW am 25.10.2005, 18:12:42 The drop dead date for week 1 games is Nov 20. If you have not played the game by that date and the other team has 'proof' that they tried to contact you during that time and you don't have 'proof' that you replied, we will forfit the game. (and of course vica versa)
Please make sure that if you can't bump into the player online that you either send an e-mail to the player (/info playername will get you the e-mail address if it is listed) or post a message on the other's team board to schedule a time you both can meet. In general, you always have 3 weeks from the start of the week to play your game. PS LA, Have fun keeping those tables straight in the other thread. :P I don't need mod ability. LA seems happy to do it and likely has more time, but we will see how it goes. |
