Titel: I give up, how do you change your avatar?
Beitrag von: Elttil am 22.03.2006, 21:51:45
On these new forums, most people have an avatar picture with question marks, but others (myself and Nicias) have the dreaded red X, and reikja has a nice picture. I looked through the forum profile and web page profile, but can't find anywhere to specify a picture. Does anyone know how to do it?

It should be under the "Forum Profile Information" option after you click on "profile"

Since it's not, I assume it is disabled in the forum settings.

I want my avatar! :(
Any way we can get it enabled?

If you look at the source of the avatar image, for all the actual pictures and question marks it appears to be something of the form:
http://213.155.73.107/Client/pics/spieler/50680.jpg
(that's reikja's ... the question marks seem to "resolve to" 0.jpg )

The ones that show up as Xs are of the form:
http://62.138.43.168/Client/pics/spieler/35448.jpg

There are pics on 62.138.43.168, and I was able to find a forum post that displayed one.  I suspect this means that server just has not been set up to automatically resolve non-existant #ers to a default pic (such as 0.jpg), so all the people showing Xs are people "assigned" to 62.138.43.168 who have not submitted avatar pics.

The directory on 213.155.73.107 was not viewable, so I wasn't able to even try to discern any sort of pattern of what user# is assigned to which server, but it at least wasn't obvious from the few I saw (except that all the ones on 62.138... were added in 2003, so maybe the ones on the 213 server are more recent).

The pics (including source) are the same as those that appear in the "Spieler Info" at:
http://www.brettspielwelt.de/HallOfFame/SpielerInfo/
and, I presume, in the info box within the client.

A German speaker might be able to find more definitive and/or up to date info on how to get an avatar pic added, all I could find was this unofficial bit on TheBoomer's site:
http://www.brettspielwelt.info/faqmisc.html

I would suggest waiting for confirmation before emailing any pics off so as not to inundate or irritate anyone in case Theboomer's info is obsolete.

Does anyone else feel like taking on the task of "informing BSW" about the different behavior of the two source servers?  If anyone is confident where it should be reported, I'm willing to do so since I think I understand it pretty well.  Communications may prove more convenient and effective coming from someone with better command of German though.

i will try:

the 62.138.43.168 was the old bsw-webserver. at the time it changed, the avatar-url was not updated. i will replace it for all users with the new url tomorrow.

Hi there,

SpaceSquirrel is correct, the pictures are the same as in your info in BSW (/info name). So the way to get pictures in is to follow Boomer's instructions  and send a picture to kartoffel@brettspielwelt.de.

Just so I can try out the new forum :):
It's important the pic is 64x80 Pixel and you call it nickname.jpg. Then send it as indicated above to kartoffel@brettspielwelt.de and be patient. It usually takes a while until she's got your picture added to your info. Good luck!
