NEWS
1. Here (http://www.lakesidepark.de/) is the link to the website again.
2. Unfortuneately the VSL Puppet already chooses TuT, feel free to add it to the Autoskip command, play it, or skip it (remember that you _have_ to play the next game then). *wonders why they couldnt wait until after the season* ;)

Information on the 1.Emerald.City Diversity League:

What is a diversity league (or VSL as they call it in german)?
Well, the diversity league is about all the games you can play with 2 players. You play a match (bo9)against each of the other players in your group. The games are monitored by a puppet, which also chooses the games for you. This is an in-town league so you wont have trouble meeting the other players.

  • min. 4 players
  • max. players in each group are 10
  • if there are more than 10 munchkins interested, there will be 2 equal groups, which will turn into league 1 and 2 next season.
  • we play according the vsl rules, which i will specify on my website later :)
  • short summary:
    • each match is bo9
    • each game is usually bo1 there are a few exceptions, but i will publish that later
    • the puppet chooses the games
    • win = 2 pts, tie = 1 pt
    • ties are possible
    • skipping only possible if both player agree on it, and never twice in a row
    • we play EC games only
  • we use the VSL-Trainer puppet, the commands on how to use it will follow
  • time frame: that depends on the number of players
  • Example with 10 players/ group: => 9 matches, 1 week/match => 10 weeks/season
  • there will be 2 deadlines: 1. after 5 weeks, 4 matches have to be FINISHED by then, 2. after 10 weeks, ALL matches have to be FINISHED by then.
  • matches do not have to be played in any kind of order and do not have to be finished in 1 session. the puppet saves the games, which allows each of us a great deal of flexibility. you can also play several matches at once.

I will set up my website during this week.

Sign up starts now and ends next Sunday

Woohoo! I'm in!  ;D

I added two 2p games to my repertoire today so I've at least played most of them. I'm glad to hear a whole match doesn't have to be played in one sitting, but I'm still wondering if best-of-9 is doable in one week. For some games it'll be no problem, but a best-of-9 Funkenschlag could take a while to play out over several sessions. I hope I'm understanding the format correctly.

Is a bo9 match, one game played bo9, or is it 9 different games played 1 game at a time until someone has won 5?

It's 9 different games. You play what the puppet tells you to, feed it the result, and then it gived you the next game. It stops when someone has reached 10 points, which means 5 wins.

If you get really unlucky, and you manage to get all of the slow games (Caylus, TA, Funkenschlag, CCHuB, Tongiaki) then the match might take 6 hours or more, but the usual time is around 4 hours.

If however, you manage to get your arse kicked 10-0, it doesn't last anywhere near as long...

you can count me in, but it will really depend on the time frame (I will be away for 2 1/2 weeks from end of April to mid may). I might not have the time.

Dont worry, Don, the time frame is really generous and easily doable, and if you really should run into time problems, there is still the possibility of moving the deadline and/or giving you a extra week, or something similar.
After all this is supposed to be fun :)
And I will make it possibly for everyone, who is interested to take part in this :)

Jocy, who is really happy that so many are already interested in playing.

Thank you all for signing up, I never thought we would have to have 2 leagues  :)

The website, with all the information needed, will be up no later than tonite and then i will give you the link in here.

You can start playing then.

Please post the results of finished matches in here. I will write in this colour from now on so that you can tell when it's me saying something easily.

Thanks to Greg's help, the website is up. Have fun playing: VSL Rules and tables (http://www.lakesidepark.de/emeraldcity/vsl/)

Woohoo! League B rocks!  ;D

I assume it's ok to play multiple matches at the same time. For example, play three games against week 1 opponent, then two games against week 2 opponent, then back for more against week 1 opponent, etc.

I don't know how I'm going to get all these games in along with a healthy dose of Attika, Fuersten, TuT, but I'm looking forward to trying.  :)

Sure, the puppet can keep the results for multiple matches (I think you just can't have two started matches with the same opponent at a given time, but why would you want to do that anyway?).

Manitou ???

Did you not use the puppet command with "autoskip=BohnDuell,Dvonn,Go,Halali,Manitou,TopRace,TurnIt" at the end?

Not a big deal if you were both willing to play...I'm just wondering how it got selected.

I was thinking about the league, and I was wondering which people would like better of the following six options: (Assuming a constant group in the league for simplicity)

  • Randomly determine the groups each season.
  • Have a two division system. Where the two high finishers in the bottom league go up and the two low finishers in the top league go down.
  • Try and make both leagues have a mix of high and low finishers from the last season.
  • Try and mix the leagues up as much as possible, to keep people playing new people.
  • Try and set the leagues by play times, so that it is easier to meet your oppoenets online.
  • Two divisions, competitive and non-competitive. More about attitude then skill.

I like the idea of randomly determining who goes in which league, but I don't have strong feelings about it.

Finding my opponents logged on hasn't been a problem for me, but I'm online a lot.

Elttil bribes the VSL puppet with a 2-week trip to MarionetteLand so it'll pick nothing but strategy games for the rest of his match with DQ.

Don had me on the ropes, but I bribed the puppet with a box of toothpicks and a ball of string so it picked three nice games for me down the stretch. :)
