As not that many E.C players patricpated at the "real" Olympics, what about trying to organize an "Cup of Americas" that is played during Pacific Standard Time hours(the Brazilian players will like that idea, too, I think)?

Doesn't have to be a big thing, maybe just 5-10 events for starters?

Things we would need:
* a date for the events
* somebody to put up a website
* talking to the tournament masters of the guilds of the games we want o be played
* talk to the BSW guys to be allowed to build an Olympic stadium ;-)
* getting money for the build ;-)

As a member of the TA guild triumvirat, I could organize that tournament.

Any comments?

I love the idea! I know it's a lot of work setting it up but I'm willing to offer any assistance needed. Instead of building a stadium in town (since it's VERY expensive), we could arrange with two or three other towns to secure the number of game rooms needed for each of the events.

I was actually thinking of something on a smaller scale like a weekend tournament of one event (to see what kind of response we'd get). The event I had chosen was PR since we already have 3 rooms available in town. Securing a 4th room would be relatively easy and would allow us to accommodate up to 32 people in the tournament (4p games). We could even do this on the weekend of Jan 24th & 25th.

Of course, TA or any other event could also be considered for this trial run.

Comments?

Great Idea Hanno!!

Hi from Englishtown,

We've been considering something similar, either city-tournaments on EST/PST time or a mini-olympics.

Maybe you can contact us to coordinate.

Hanno:

I like this idea.

Here in the western hemisphere we have an event every 4 years called The pan American Games, its dort of an Olympics for the Western Hemisphere.  I believe they have a similiar event in Asia and I'm sure other regions also.

I think if we do this kind of event on BSW, it should have a different format than the BSW Olympics.  The main reason is, they will have an olympics every year and we don't really want  to have 2 of the same events.  The 2nd is we might be able to improve on the event, by making it easier for people to participate.  One of the big program with the BSW olympics was the compressed nature of the schedule.  If we have qualifying event spread over a longer period of time, we could have more people play.  Also we could reduce the number of events, maybe 20 or so, this would be reduce the work load required.

As for the Olympic stadium issue, I doubt that TAMM would agree to allowing one to be built for such an event.  We could however have several towns jointly hold the games and have events in regular game rooms from those towns.

Since we have 5 towns that are largely western hemisphere based.  EC, ET, Burgundy Ridge, Pirate's Cove and Terra Brasilis, perhaps these 5 towns could jointly host the games.  We could take a census of the game rooms in those 5 towns and they might be enough to host such an event.  Maybe we could get TAMM to add some way we could reserve those rooms for such a scheduled event, that way the rooms would be assured of being available.

Such a jointly hosted event would be good a thing in my opinion.  We in Englishtown view the other 4 towns as our friends, and any events we cooperate jointly on would be a good idea.

I know that Pirate's cove would be interested in working on this also, I can't speak for TB, but I have good contacts there and they seem like they would be interested also.  BR might be tougher since they don't seem to be very active, but something like this could help jump-start them.

If all the towns agreed, we could create a committee with 1 member from each town and those 5 people could work out the issues.

I do have a suggested title.  We could call them the New Welt Games Smiley
