Recently,it has come to my attention that people, in Englishtown, are upset with my actions in becoming Guildmaster of the Attribut guild.  Since I fail to see why anyone would be upset, I'll leave it to them to explain what they see as the problem, and simply explain my thoughts and reasons.

In case you aren't aware, the GuildMaster position goes to the guild member that has the highest all-time rating(total game points from all games played) for that game.  Players do have the option of turning their candidacy off, in which case the next highest ranking player will become Guildmaster.  This is done each month on the 15th.
Guilds do have a "recall" procedure, where the members of the Guild may remove the Guildmaster if they choose.  This is a rarely used procedure, but have been used sucessfully, at least twice in other guilds.  It is fairly common for a number of guilds to have new guildmasters each month.

For 14 months, I had been a member of the Bluff guild, and
was GM for approximately 7 of those.  I stepped down as GM a few months ago, to allow FatMike of Dornbach to become Guildmaster.

In November, I spoke with the then Guildmaster of Attribut, who asked if I might consider joining the Attribut guild and becoming GM.  Since Attribut is my favorite game, I decided at that time to switch.  The Bluff guild requested that I stay on at least through the end of 2003 to help with the Olympics.  I agreed.  On the 9th of Jan I switched to the Attribut guild.

At the time I switched, the Guildmaster was an Englishtown citizen /dev/joe, who had become GM in December.

I decided to join the Attribut, because it is:

1) my favorite game on BSW
2) The game I spend the most time playing
3) I believe that the guilds are an important part of BSW

I'm at a loss as to why some people find this objectionable.

I believe that I am very well qualified to be Guildmaster for Attribut.

Besides being ranked first all-time, I am 4th in total games played, 1st in wins, rank highly in both points per game and win percentage.

In addition I've written 5 of the 6 English language word sets for the game and translated the rules into English for the BSW server.

Even when I wasn't a member of the Attribut guild, I agreed to help organize the Olympic Attribut event(which wasn't a medal event but was nontheless part of the games) including teaming up with the GM(oti) to write the English/German word set, so that English speaking players would be able to take part in the Olympic event.

That my actions have apparently offended people, I offer my appology. It, certainly, was not intention to do so.  My intention was sinmply to support the game I enjoy most on BSW, nothing more, nothing less.

Sincerely,
Boomer

Clearly, I stink at most of these games, but I enjoy playing them.

TheBoomer,

For what it is worth, I am happy to have you as the Attribut GuildMaster.  You have my full support.  You are obviously qualified, and I have personally witnessed your efforts to teach the rest of us how to play this great game.

When it comes to Attribut, and esepcially English speaking Attribut, only one name comes to mind: TheBoomer.

The man lives and breathes Attribut on here.  I almost want to say he IS Attribut but that might be going too far.

Anyway, Boom's da man for the job if the previous man for the job didn't want the job no more.

Daz just my 2 centavos.

And that's exactly the situation, Darkwolf. I became guildmaster of Attribut in December (due to the Olympics, the cycle started late, right at the end of the Olympics). And it happened because all of the more experienced players in the guild either didn't want to do the job, or had drifted away from the game so much that they had fallen out of the guild (for failure to play a game in 31 days). Everybody with more than my 800-some points in 70-some games of Attribut was either not interested in being Guildmaster, or had not played frequently enough to remain in the guild.

The previous Guildmaster, oti, turned off his candidacy without telling me, though he had said something to the effect that he wasn't particularly interested in doing the job, and was doing it primarily because the Guildmaster before him, Pfluftl, was not at all interested in doing the job. Pfluftl at one point returned to the guild after an absence to find her mistrust at 60%, an event that occurred when one office was vacant, the other occupied by a [closed/12345] account, Pfluftl was unreachable for a period of time, and everybody else (all 3 of us) had set mistrust on. She said she didn't have time for the guild, and turned her candidacy off.

So you see, the guild has had trouble keeping officers interested in doing the jobs, or even keeping members period. Apathy has been our true Guildmaster. So it's a perfect situation for an experienced player actually interested in the guild to step in. And Boomer has done just that.

In my short 25-day term as Guildmaster I managed to fill the offices, which had again fallen vacant/idle toward the end of oti's term. I went so far as to recruit Bliss to the guild to fill one office. I was effectively the founder of the English branch of the guild, when I joined several months ago as the first English-Attribut-playing member, so it was somewhat fitting that I was the first English Guildmaster. But I have no problem with Boomer taking over the role. I almost recruited him for the guild anyway, but I stopped when I saw he was Bluff GM.

I don't know what problem people have with it, but don't anybody feel like he stole the job from me. Or from anybody else either. I happened into a job nobody really wanted to do, and now we have an appropriate, high-ranking and active Guildmaster. And if anyone feels that English speakers or EnglishTown specifically are taking over the guild, I don't see that that is a problem. We have an active group of Attribut players, so much so that we have occasionally had to send people away to form a second game in another town because the game in our Attribut room was already full. And the Germans have shown little interest in running the guild, for six months.

There is a German Attribut league which plays a couple games a month in various towns, and that will continue. We hope to also set up some tournaments, and one idea we are considering is a German/English tournament where the winners of the German and English brackets play in a final game with the German/English card set.
