I thought some of you might like to see this sculpture...
The sculpture is the projection of an Octacube (which is a regular solid in the 4th dimension) into the 3rd dimension. The idea is just like drawing the earth (a 3 dimensional object) onto a map (a 2 dimensional object). It is the first good rendering in the world of a 4 dimensional object either in physical or virtual form.
Besides the fact that it looks neat, it has special meaning for me because:
- It was created by Dr. Adrian Ocneanu, who was one of the professors I had at Penn State. He is a really sharp guy.
- It is on display in the McAllister Building (Penn State's Mathematics Building). A place where I spent a few years of my life studying.
