Hello everyone,

over the past days i more and more wondered about ECs concept. Looking back to when i joined the main reasons for me joining were english speaking crowd and nice people and i liked the general theme of Wizard of Oz,

But over the time i wondered about the concept.

Is it Wizard of Oz, or Seattle? or both? I never quite fully understood that and figure that many other (especially new) munchkins feel the same way.

And if its Wizard of Oz (like i think) why dont we try and include that a little more especially in our website, or also, just as a tiny example, give our in town league a name that has sth to do with Wizard of Oz?

Just some random thoughts on the subject. And just to make it clear: I am not criticizing the current website or logo or sth) im just trying to piece it together.

Maybe we could also have a point in the main forum or on the website, where we explain about the history behind EC and the logo etc...

Jocy

PS. I know that Emerald city = Seattle, but what has Seattle to do with Oz?

PPS: BTW i thought about this for some time now...but *gg* according to wizard of oz, Elttil would be the Wizard and reikja the scarecrow *ggg* *runs and hides* j/k

but i found this nice side who has wonderful things and maps and explanations about the Wizard of Oz, which we could actually use maybe (if there is interest at all), incl clipart stuff etc.

But maybe you want to take a look anyway:

Zitat
And just to make it clear: I am not criticizing the current website or logo

The logo was done my stoneself, one of the earlier members of the town. So you can blame him for how it looks, not me Smiley

As for the other questions... Make that 2 of us who are looking for answers.

The porcupine is primarily nocturnal and may rest by day. When threatened, the porcupine places its snout between its forelegs and spins around presenting its rear to the enemy.

I feel fine in EC the way it is and the loose way we handle our Seattle / Oz theme. I feel no need to change anything about it nor do I want any more of it. To do so would mean to change the city's atmosphere (in my opinion). Appart from Emerald (Oz & Seattle) for me the main "theme" of this city (and what I love almost best) is its internationality.

The way I always explained the link between Seattle and the Wizard of Oz to myself was the common name "Emerald City" and that was all. I'm not sure there is a part of EC Founding History on the webpage (I'd have to check). If not it might indeed be a good idea to add something of this initial idea of the four founders.

That how I always took it.  Emerald City is the nickname for Seattle and is the main city in the Wizard of Oz.

I don't think I need any more or less Oz theme.

As others have mentioned, the link is:

Seattle = Emerald City = Wizard of Oz

Elttil would be the Wizard and reikja the scarecrow *ggg* *runs and hides* j/k

I want to be the Tin Man (I am a fan of the band America), and I think reikja is Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.  Grin

reikja can life with both, the wise scarecrow (after years of struggling to get brains... and hell what brains he has got finally!!) but since it's definitely not my alter Ego, Dorothy, she prefers the Good Witch Glinda... *gg

*feels quite comfortable with the idea of being the cowardly lion Wink*

I found this while browsing thru the web for a yellow brick road.

Just thought i share, its from a family restaurant:

So i think the picture is indeed quite "official" for Emerald.City

If life is a game, God made it a quite complexe one. He must have had a hard time working it out. The big question is: if it IS a game, shouldnt we take the small things less serious and have some fun?
